A few years ago, I had the great pleasure to visit the Folger Shakespeare Library and behold its 82 First Folios (on a private tour). The fact that its creators had interred their ashes in the reading room fascinated me. So when I heard about a new book about the Folgers and their passion for Shakespearana, I knew it would be a must-read. Pinned to Shakespeare’s upcoming 450th birthday later this month, I wrote about “Bardolatry across the pond” for the Economist‘s Prospero blog.
